What is the Referrals Registry and How Do I Use It?
Savvy pro speakers know that when they get a request to speak that they can’t handle (for whatever reason), it’s far better to refer another speaker than it is to tell a client (or even a prospective client) “no!”. But how do you find qualified speakers to refer?
Without a doubt, the best way to know of someone to refer is through a personal contact. Speakers you’ve met at National Speakers Association events, chapter meetings, or members of your mastermind group – all these are the best source of qualified speakers who you can refer.
But what if you don’t have access to these networks of speakers? Or what if you do, but even the people you know don’t have the skills or abilities that you need. (“Wanted: someone who can keynote in Haitian”). That’s where Pro Speaker You’s Referral Registry comes to the rescue.
Important! The Referral Registry is not designed to replace networking or personal connections. It is designed to help you when networking or personal connections don’t give you the referral you need.
Can I Participate in the Referrals Registry?
Whether or not you can participate in the Referrals Registry depends on your membership level in Pro Speaker You.
You must be a Pro- or Rock Star-level member of Pro Speaker You to participate in the Referrals Registry.
How to Add Your Info to the Referrals Registry
Here’s how to enter your information into the Referral Registry (so you can be referred)
From Center Stage, click on “Edit your Referrals Registry Profile”. You will then have the opportunity to enter various characteristics of your speaking business, including:
Program Types – list the types of programs or services that you provide, such as keynotes, training programs, emcee, voice-over, etc.
Speaker Reel – put a link to your Speaker Reel (address of the video) here. Please include the “https://” leading part of the URL.
Primary Topic – list your primary speaking topic(s) or expertise
Website – put a link (URL) to your website. (Please include the “https://” leading part of the URL.)
Online preference – Do you present online or in-person? If both, which do you prefer?
Service Area – Where will you travel to do business? (such as Continental USA; Europe; 50 km radius of Tokyo, Japan; etc.) Leave blank if you’ll travel to anywhere in the world; enter “None” if you only speak virtually.
Preferred audience – who do you prefer to speak to? (spouses, youth, C-level executives, retirees, etc.)
Speaker One Sheet – Link (URL) to your Speaker One-Sheet. (Please include the “https://” leading part of the URL.)
Languages – Which spoken language(s) do you present in? (Leave blank for English-only.)
Awards or Designations – List any Designations or Titles (CSP, AS, etc) or Awards (Knighthood) that might affect your being hired
How to Contact – This is how to contact you (your email address, phone #, etc.) about referring you. Remember, this is another speaker referring you, not a meeting planner hiring you.
How to use the Referral Registry to find a speaker to refer
Using the Referral Registry to find a speaker who you can refer is easy! Simply go to Center Stage, and from there select “View / search The Referrals Registry”.
On the Referrals Registry home page, you can search for the specialties or specific characteristics that you’re looking for. Please note that this is a simple “dumb” search of keyword-matching, not a sophisticated AI-based search, so you may have to try different search keywords to find the speaker you’re interested in.
Some important notes on the Referral Registry:
- A member’s Profile data is entered by the individual member, and so Pro Speaker You cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information in the Registry. (If you discover any inaccurate information, please let us know and we’ll take steps to correct any errors or misrepresentations.)
- The Referrals Registry is offered as a service to some members of Pro Speaker You, depending on their membership level. (It’s kind of like “speed dating” for speakers.) Other than providing an “introduction” to other speakers, Pro Speaker You is not involved in the process in any way, and cannot accept responsibility for the results of any matches formed through the Pro Speaker You Referrals Registry.
- Compensation, if any, from the speaker being referred to the referring speaker is completely up to those parties involved. Again, Pro Speaker You is not involved in the process beyond providing the initial introduction.
